If you're a current student at the University of Portsmouth and running your own business, you can sign up for free hot desk space at Innovation Connect which will also give you access to the extensive business support provided by Barclays Eagle Labs.

Current students

Students at the University of Portsmouth who are running their own business or starting a business are entitled to free Hot Desk in Coworking Space at Halpern House.

The membership allows you:

• Shared desk space
• Internet access
• Access to the building during weekdays (Mon to Thurs, 7am to 7pm & Fri 7am to 6pm)
• Access to podcast facilities
• Access to meeting rooms
• Community events and networking opportunities such as monthly beer and pizza events
• Access to business support from Eagle Labs
• Use of the building to register your business in Companies House, HMRC and business activities

You won't be able to use the building as an employee of other businesses, you must use it for your own business purposes as we want to support you. 

The membership is from the beginning of the new academic year to the end of the academic year in July or until you are no longer a student at the University. Your membership can be renewed at the beginning of every academic year as long as you are still a student at the University.

Self Employed Placement (SEP)

University of Portsmouth students can take up a Self Employed Placement (SEP) year rather than going into industry for a placement year. During the SEP, you can take up a SEP membership at Halpern House for free to run your business from. For more on SEP programme, contact studentstartup@port.ac.uk 

You'll have access to:

• Your own designated desk space
• 24/7 access as soon as you join
• Access to meeting room booking system

Student Startup support

All students at the University and recent graduates who have graduated in the past 5 years can access dedicated support from the Student Startup team. They can offer you opportunities to develop your entrepreneurial skills, startup advice, workshops, networking opportunities and lots of useful resources.
